Alta Medispa Lip Flip before and after

A lip flip is a cosmetic non-surgical lip enhancement procedure that involves the use of Botox to enhance the appearance of the lips, and reduce the appearance of a gummy smile. Unlike traditional lip fillers or cosmetic injectables for lips that add volume, a lip flip focuses on relaxing the muscles around the upper lip, allowing it to curl outward and create the illusion of fuller lips. This subtle yet effective treatment is ideal for those looking for a more natural enhancement to their smile. It is a great option for patients who are looking for a gummy-smile treatment, or for patients with thinner lips.

It’s a great option for patients who want to get bigger lips, without injecting any lip filler or filler material in their lips, as a Botox Lip Flip enhances or “maximizes” natural lips, rather than adding to them.

the procedure - what to expect

preparation and process

Before undergoing a lip flip, it’s essential to avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and aspirin, as these can affect the healing process. The procedure itself is quick and minimally invasive, often completed within 10 to 20 minutes. It involves injecting a small amount of Botox into specific areas around the upper lip to relax the muscles and achieve the desired flip effect.

  • Ice Application: Apply an ice pack to the lips intermittently for the first 24 hours to reduce swelling and bruising. It’s advisable to wrap the ice pack in a clean cloth to avoid direct contact with the skin.
  • Avoid Pressure: For at least 48 hours post-procedure, refrain from any actions that apply pressure to the lips, such as kissing, using straws, or blowing. This precaution helps maintain the Botox placement for optimal results.
  • Stay Upright: Patients are advised to remain upright for several hours after the procedure to prevent the Botox from migrating from the intended treatment area.
  • Hydration and Nutrition: Drinking plenty of water and consuming soft foods that don’t require extensive lip movement can be beneficial in the immediate days following the procedure.

Potential Side Effects

While a lip flip is generally considered safe, as with any cosmetic procedure, there are potential side effects that candidates should be aware of:

  • Swelling and Bruising: Mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites are common but usually subside within a few days.
  • Asymmetry: There’s a risk of uneven lip movement or asymmetry if the Botox is not administered evenly, although this is rare with an experienced practitioner.
  • Muscle Weakness: Temporary muscle weakness or difficulty in moving the lips may occur but typically resolves as the Botox effect begins to wear off.
  • Allergic Reactions: Although rare, some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to Botox. Symptoms can include itching, rash, redness, or swelling beyond the treatment area, requiring immediate medical attention.

Lip Flip before and after faq

  • Lip Flip: Utilizes a small amount of Botox to relax the muscles around the upper lip, causing it to curl upward and outward, giving the appearance of fuller lips without adding volume.
  • Lip Fillers: Involves injecting substances (usually hyaluronic acid) to physically add volume to the lips, making them plumper.

A lip flip generally lasts between 2 to 4 months, depending on the individual’s response to Botox. This duration is shorter than that of lip fillers, which can last from 6 months to over a year.

Most individuals report a minimal level of discomfort during the procedure, often described as a quick pinch. Topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand to reduce pain sensitivity.

It’s recommended to avoid applying lipstick or any lip product for at least 24 hours after the procedure to prevent any potential infection and to allow the treatment area to heal properly.

A Lip Flip involves injecting Botox to the muscles around your lips, it’s a very common and routine procedure that seldom goes wrong – but again – you need to make sure that you go to a trusted injector, such as one of our board-certified cosmetic surgeons or nurse injectors at ALTA who have undergone rigorous training. If injected incorrectly and/or with the wrong doses, Lip Flip can cause your muscles to over-relax causing drooling, and slight problems with drinking or enunciating and speaking clearly.

You can see the full results of a Lip Flip 10-14 days after your procedure. A Lip Flip procedure has a very noticeable effect on your lips, and the degree of how noticeable will depend on the severity of your muscular activity prior to your lip flip procedure.

Our instructions recommend that you don’t have any passionate kissing for at least 3 days after your Lip Flip procedure. This is to minimize any risk of migration of Botox.

We charge $12-$16 per unit of Botox (depending on how many units you get).

Lip Flip procedure will most definitely not give you duck lips. This is because Botox for Lip Flip will allow your lips to turn outwards, making them appear thicker and fuller, rather than creating a projection, which is how duck lips usually form.

Botox for a Lip Flip is usually injected in the muscle above your lips, in the center (near your cupid’s bow), and then in the area of each corner of your mouth.

The amount of units of Botox required for a successful Lip Flip procedure is usually between 5-10 units.

Our office is located in Beverly Hills, to schedule, you can either book online, or by giving us a call or text.

Since Lip Flip involves Botox injections, how long the results of a lip flip stay depends on your metabolism and environmental factors, but the results are not permanent and usually last 3-4 months.
